You’re Not Overreacting: How to Advocate for Your Pelvic Health

Your pelvic health matters—and it’s more important than ever to trust your instincts when something feels off. Many people feel dismissed, embarrassed, or unsure of how to bring up pelvic issues with healthcare providers.

At Auria Pelvic Health, we want you to know: you’re not overreacting, and your concerns deserve attention.

Why Pelvic Health Advocacy Matters

Pelvic health affects so much more than just your day-to-day comfort—it touches your bladder, bowels, sexual health, and even mental well-being. Problems like pain, incontinence, or discomfort during daily activities are not “normal” and should not be ignored.

Advocating for yourself can lead to earlier treatment, better outcomes, and improved quality of life.

Tips for Advocating for Your Pelvic Health

1. Listen to Your Body

Your body gives you signals for a reason. If something feels wrong—pain, pressure, leakage, or anything interfering with your daily life—take it seriously. Trust your instincts.

2. Document Symptoms

Keep a simple journal of your symptoms: when they happen, what makes them better or worse, and any triggers. Clear information helps healthcare providers understand your experience and create a tailored plan.

3. Ask Questions

Don’t be afraid to ask questions, even if they feel uncomfortable. Questions like, “Is this normal?”, “What treatment options exist?”, or “Could this be related to pelvic floor dysfunction?” are valid and necessary.

4. Seek Specialized Care

Pelvic health is a specialized field, and not all providers have the same training. Occupational and physical therapists trained in pelvic health can make a huge difference in your recovery and comfort.

5. Bring an Advocate

Whether it’s a partner, friend, or family member, bringing someone supportive to appointments can help you feel heard and remember key points discussed with your provider.

6. Trust Yourself

You know your body better than anyone else. Even if others downplay your symptoms, your experience is valid. Seeking care and speaking up is a sign of strength, not overreaction.
